Photobook of people

In this volume Günther Komnick invites you to see the world through his vision, the people of this world, a sampling, a compilation of the endless variety of humanity. Paging through this photographic essay we see people of all ages and stages of life, indulging in activities that they are gifted at, activities they practise so as to make a living. Or, in some cases, just being and savouring their sojourn on earth.
We see children playing in the streets of some ancient city, wisdom written on the wizened faces of people who have spent a lifetime in the desert sun; we see people seeking refuge in the cool streets, enjoying a sense of belonging. We see desolation and abundance, conformity and strident individuality, tradition, humour and engagement and lively conversations. From all around the world, from the Maghreb to South America, from Asia to Africa and Europe, Komnick the individuals, be they Arab or Quechua, Chinese or Latvian, Himba or Tamil all seem to share in the abundance of life, either as children adolescents or old men and women with insight and experience etched on their faces, simmering in their eyes.
Joyful and carefree children playing games in the streets, surrounded by the manifestations of ancient cultures, vibrant colours, music, all grafted into faces and gestures and reflected in their moods. It is these moods which Komnick captures so well, often pensive and content; the faces distilling their varied environments, people in contexts where they thrive. Although one cannot hear the music, it is ever present amid the colours and the smiles. Tangos or pan-flutes, noise and ritual all compete in this kaleidoscope of activity and leisure, with woven colours and captivating views we share in the sheer delight of the world Komnick has created for us.
