Photobook of blooms & birds

Dedicated to my loving wife, Lila

In this volume Günther Komnick celebrates the infinite variety of flora that festoons the earth, each adapted to the soil, the weather, the altitude and generally prevailing climatic conditions. What sets this collection apart is Komnick’s inclusion of bird life, as after all, birds (and insects) are vital to the reproductive cycle of plants. Pollination is made possible by the seasonal behaviour of bees and birds and as we know the magnificent forms and colours that flowers acquire ensure that birds are attracted to flowers, thus guaranteeing the reproductive cycle of plants.
It would be impossible to provide a comprehensive guide to the blooms of just one small segment of the earth, but that is not Komnick’s intention. He is more intent at conveying the wonderment we feel when we sample the endless variety of our natural heritage. The interaction between birds and blooms has a reassuring predictability that leaves us enriched and appreciative of this magnificent heritage.
